SOUTH KOREA: Land, Food and Democracy, August 24 – September 1, 2013

Known as the “land of the morning calm”, South Korea is known for its unique cuisine and the centuries-long struggle of South Korean farmers for land and democracy. On this tour, participants will visit farmer operated cooperatives and speak to peasants and activists who are working to promote a democratic local food system that respects the history, tradition, and culture of the Korean people. This Food Sovereignty Tour led by Food First in collaboration with the Korean Peasant’s League, the Korean Women’s Peasant Association and Seoul-based O’ngo Food Tours. With a Food First expert and our local partners as guides, participants will experience a Korea not often seen by outsiders.

The trip is organized by Food Sovereignty Tours, a project of Food First/Institute for Food and Development Policy in Oakland, CA, called one of the country’s “most established food think tanks” by the New York Times.
